Abstract

The results of observations on learning activities in class VIII F of SMP Negeri 2 Kediri showed that
learning in class still uses the conventional system. As a result, students become passive and less
enthusiastic in participating in mathematics lessons. The purpose of this study was to determine the
increase in student activity and achievement after participating in learning with a contextual approach. This
research is Classroom Action Research using a cycle system which is carried out in class VIII F students
of SMP Negeri 2 Kediri for the 2022/2023 academic year. The instrument used to retrieve data about
student learning activities and achievements comes from the question bank so that the quality only follows
construct validity. Testing this instrument uses Rasch Modeling by looking at the MNSQ-ZSTD infit-outfit
value, reliability, separation and dimensionality. The results showed an increase in activity and
achievement in learning mathematics in class VIII F after implementing contextual learning. Based on data
on student learning activities in cycle I, a score of 66.75 (active) was obtained and in cycle II it was 84.5
(active). Student achievement scores in cycle I and cycle II were 60.83 and 71.5 respectively. With an
average increase in student achievement scores of 17.54%. The conclusion of this study is that there has
been an increase in student activity and achievement with the application of contextual learning in class
VIII F of SMP Negeri 2 Kediri in the 2022/2023 academic year.
